Talking Points Memo | Hmmmm: "Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) on Obama: 'I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button. He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country.'"
Holy Shit! In 2008, a Republican congressman refers to an African American US Senator as "boy."
Wow. Davis is 49, Obama 46. I don't think I have ever called someone three years younger than me 'boy'. I would have to say this is veiled racism.
ReplyDeleteThis midwest-northerner-never-been-farther-south-than-Missouri thinks it was pretty blatantly racist. He should have known better.
ReplyDeleteI spent way too long trying to figure out what he meant by "simulation," when it seems obvious that he meant "situation" and misspoke. Or is that a regional dialect thing?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, "boy" is way out of line.
