Perhaps Bush has his own "Monica problem"

Because his lapdog AG put another idiot in charge of hiring and firing and did so based on
purely partisan reasons:
“You have a Monica problem,” Ms. Ashton was told, according to several Justice Department officials. Referring to Monica M. Goodling, a 31-year-old, relatively inexperienced lawyer who had only recently arrived in the office, the boss added, “She believes you’re a Democrat and doesn’t feel you can be trusted.”
Yet, I am sure I will be told by some conservative that this is just "business as usual," or that "Clinton did it too."
Mr. Comey said that if the accusations about Ms. Goodling’s partisan actions were true, the damage was deep and real.

“I don’t know how you would put that genie back in the bottle, if people started to believe we were hiring our A.U.S.A.s (Assistant United States Attorneys) for political reasons,” he said at a House hearing this month. “I don’t know that there’s any window you can go to to get the department’s reputation back if that kind of stuff is going on.”
And not just the Justice Department. The entire government will need to retrieve its reputation.

Heckuva job, Bushie.

Streak- You also probably read but didn't note in your post that she's a 1999 Regent grad. Last night's Bill Moyers Journal (http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/05112007/profile.html) actually profiled Regents and mentioned Goodling specifically. Later-BB

BB, you raise an important point, and that is a key difference with this administration.

Of course every administration considers political affiliation as part of the calculus in hiring. In previous administrations, appointees were otherwise qualified for the positions they held. Now, Monica Goodling, proud alum of Regent U. Law School, is on board.

Another difference here is that political loyalty was a central component of performance reviews. Carol Lam and other experienced US Attorneys are now out having been "evaluated" by the likes of Goodling and replaced by the likes of Rachel Pauloose.

Michael Bloomberg suggests that one key to sucess for a recent graduate is: hire people smarter than you.

Clearly the next president will need to follow that advice in order to undo the AMAZING damage that has been done by 'W' and his people.
