More fun with Republicans and polls

According to a new poll, only 42% of Republicans believe Obama is an American citizen, and if you break that down by region, you find the "birthers" predominately in the American South.

The poll was done by DailyKos, so I am a little skeptical. I have a friend that used to work for a polling firm, and he usually tells me who puts out questionable information, so I will ask him about this one.

Understood. Unfortunately, given the way so many Republicans have responded to the Birther question of late, the result of this poll is rather conceivable.

Brendan Nyhan has more on the poll here and I kind of agree with Tomasky here.

Not that the Republicans don't have their problems, but most of them seem to want the birthers to go away and are embarrassed when one of them starts up with the questions. As for pundits, I see that Andrew Sullivan is calling for Obama to release the documents.

When you say most, I hope you are right. I am sure that is true in Michigan. And we have certainly seen people like Michael Steele and others openly say that the birther issue is a dead one. But we have also seen lots of Republicans either skirt the issue, or simply try to get away from having to answer it. That suggests that they know it is crazy, but also suggests that their polling or call receipts tell them that there are a lot of birthers out there.

Yeah, and about Sullivan, he is consistent, you have to grant him that. I disagree with him, because I think the documents have already been released, and the President should not have to provide his birth certificate to every loon who demands it.

I like Sullivan, but I don't think the President needs to cater to these loons. I think that most Republicans are hoping that it will just go away and are reluctant to get into some kind of dialog with these people.

Steves,
Here in Oklahoma, I constantly fend off Republicans who do not believe Pres. Obama is a citizen, and go off on tirades that are just astounding in lack of mental clarity.

One recently blessed me in my office and was so angry about Pres. Obama being in office, that when I mildly said some other areas of the nation seemed to like him, the guy almost hit me before he could control himself.

The man in question is an upper level engineer at our firm, not some poorly educated person that one might expect.

We don't elect Inhoffe and Coburn to the Senate for no reason.

We certainly have our wackos here, but I am thankful they don't seem to be as common as they are down there.
