Interesting post on the SPLC's decision to add the Family Research Council to the hate group list

And I post this with reservations, since I know this is the kind of thing that brings out the trolls. But there is some good stuff here, and some good challenges to those who are not supportive of gay rights.

I really liked the linked article.

It said that the FRC was put on the list due to the "...continuous dissemination of known falsehoods and the repeated, groundless demonizing of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people..."

That is a great way to say it, but it makes me wonder.

When will the Republican Party be placed on the list? It seems they have exhibited the same behavior.

By all means, let us tell the truth.

1. God considers homosexuality to be a sin, as documented in the Bible.
2. Just as the Christian faith is incompatible with adultery and stealing, so is it also incompatible with homosexuality. There is no such thing as a "Christian adulterer", and no such thing as a "Christian homosexual". God requires repentance from sin in order for someone to become a Christian.
3. Men who sexually abuse boys are homosexuals, whether or not they deny it.
4. Children are damaged and led astray when they are taught that homosexuality is either morally good, or morally neutral.
5. According to the Bible, unrepentant sinners are condemned, by God, to everlasting damnation.

In the 1840s and 50s, as the slavery debate took full swing in the States, plenty of people preached the godliness of slavery from their pulpits. They found biblical rationale for owning slaves, and claimed opponents were in direct violation of God's Will. Lincoln, by all means a half-assed opponent of slavery (wellll....if you have 'em, you can keep 'em, but nobody else gets them, mmkay?), put an end that that.

So from that standpoint, regardless of the fact that owning slaves was "biblically justified"(1 Timothy 6:1-5 was oft-used as a way to say that it was for their own benefit that blacks were enslaved for example), we got rid of slavery.

Or maybe we have been living in violation of God's Will on that particular subject since January 1, 1863.

Curtis's points two and three are particularly interesting. NOt quite sure where he gets the idea that christians don't sin. That isn't biblical.

The third point is the real dodge. Denies that Christian men who are straight could possibly do these horrible things. Makes it easier to demonize all gays as abusers. Even when that isn't true.

Recent study, btw, found that children raised by lesbian partners experienced nearly zero abuse.

While I think it is good thay people call out the FRC for their BS, the SPLC has never been close to objective or non-biased by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, I have been waiting for your objections to the SPLC. Not sure what your problem is with them, but that is really not important.

I agree that the FRC needs to be called out. Unfortunately, Tony Perkins is constantly given a free ride by the mainstream media, and even allowed access to the WaPo to promote his hatred.

Bob, I think you have a great point about the GOP. They have gone off the damn rails.

very good. I am intrigued by the blog.

My problem with them is that they are mostly concerned with riling people up to generate fear, with the hopes that they will get more in donations. They have gone from some 200 or so "hate" groups in 2009 to 900 groups this year.

Last winter it was the so-called patriot groups. While I am sure that some are hate groups, they lumped in many groups and individuals that haven't done or said anything that could be construed as hateful or dangerous.

Therefore, I don't give them much credibility.

I guess I am wondering how you know that they are naming these groups just to generate fear. The fact that the number went from 200 to 900 is not exactly proof that those groups are not hate groups.
