Rick Perry calls us all to a Christian prayer

This is, as Sully says, "Christianism," rather than Christianity. This is so inappropriate, and so much pandering to right wing fundamentalism that it makes me a little ill. And that says nothing about the fact that some of the things he is talking about aren't spiritual problems at all--they are about political choices. And this from the guy refusing to raise taxes while he cuts funding for poor kids. Fuck that.

Repeat after me:

Rick Perry, whose state was propped up by stimulus spending, and later called for his state to succeed from the United States is a hypocrite and secessionist, traitor who has no business running for President.

A technical issue (Or God??) prevented the video from playing beyond Rick's speech, but that dude freaks me out. He talks about moral relativism? What an ass.

Oh, Bob. You missed a real gem by not being able to watch the rest of the vid. It is a commercial of people "just wanting to pay their bills" or "make my kids happy" or "get a job." And their request: that we all join...in prayer.

Great. While you're all mumbling to yourselves and clutching necklaces, the rest of us will be working to institute real changes. Thanks for getting out of the way.

Great. While you're all mumbling to yourselves and clutching necklaces, Rick Perry is working to fuck over everyone one of you, but you are too busy gazing upon Rick's glorious Christanism to realize you just took it without lube.

Yeah, this annoys me so very much. I would like to respect people who pray--there is a sense of humility in that. But that is certainly not what Perry is suggesting, and as you both note, it is both a distraction from real choices and a diversion from his other hand taking away resources from the poor.

The last refuge of a scoundrel these days is not patriotism, but Bible thumping.

Matthew 6:5-6 categorically prohibits this kind of public prayer, but never mind that; it's far more important to believe the Bible than to have the faintest idea what it actually says.

While I cannot say too many good things about him, I am glad to say the Governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder (R-Nerd) declined Rick Perry's invite and has refused to discuss his religion.

Good point Leighton. AFAIK, that verse was to admonish people that made a big public spectacle out of prayer and were doing it to call all sorts of attention to themselves...which is exactly what Perry was doing.
