Today's GOP

Couple of points. First, any of them who like Sarah Palin need to see a therapist. Ditto that if they are conservative Christians who say they vote by Christian values. I have a challenge out there for anyone to show me an example of Palin treating anyone with Christian values who is not one of her supporters. When I get some proof of that, I will rethink the idea that she is a resentful, mean-spirited bitch.

Second, I mostly hear from conservatives that racism is an old issue. The fact (as Monk brings up often) that the Southern strategy was where the GOP started appealing to southern racists in an effort to shore up the South is irrelevant, in their minds. Just as many people note wryly, that there are no racists any more--no one wants to see themselves as racists--then no current Republicans will even acknowledge the open racism of their Confederate flag support, or the on again, off again support for "state's rights," or their support for Conservative Citizens Councils (once just openly White Citizens Councils). And now, with no racism intended, I am sure (blerg), southern states are doing everything they can to make voting harder. For people who believe our system is perfect, it is amazing how little faith they have in actual democracy.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Palin will not be a viable candidate. I see her appealing to superficial conservatives, but anyone with half a brain and some depth will not support her. While I have defended her in the past based on how she was treated by some in the media, she has long reached the end of this excuse. I am hard pressed to find another person that does as poor of a job relating to the media.

It would be better had you put a period after the word "relating" and deleted the balance of the sentence.

I would say that she does a poor job relating to anyone who doesn't think she is amazing. Anything less than that, and you are an enemy. The "gotcha" question was something like, what have you learned in Boston.

It is crazy how many church folks think Palin is the 2012 GOP candidate. Her non-campaign campaign bus has everyone in the South convinced she is running for president even though no official announcement has been made. I simply cannot wrap my brain around why Christians (like me) think she is wonderful. She is intellectually dishonest, historically ignorant, and grammatically challenged. But I'm beginning to believe all of these things are requirements to run GOP.

@ Tony.

I agree with you, how hard it is to understand why Christians, esp would think she was great. Unfortunately I see little of the Gospel in her public life. I don't see the love of Christ, or character traits even close to representing His example.

Her tendency to attack those she views as an enemy is only one character issue, that a follower of Christ should not have.

Romans 12

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; f do not claim to be wiser than you are. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 18 If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; g for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." 20 No, "if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

That is exactly it--I have yet to see her exhibit one thing that I would call Christian, yet the Christian faithful seem to love her. Why? Because she pokes liberals in the eye. So much for Christian values in that crowd, I have to say.

Oh, MIT, you hit it perfectly. She lives so little of the Gospel in her life. And she is absolutely representative of what it means to be a Christian now in public America; a life of denouncing what is "bad" rather than an embrace of what is good and a life based upon mocking and deriding anything opposed to her version of Christianity. It is disappointing to say the least and it angers me on the other hand.

Support for Palin is just indicative of how superficial and uninformed some voters are. We see this in every election.
