Dictatorship

Via Sully:
"'We may not have realized it at the time, but in the period from late 2001-January 19, 2009, this country was a dictatorship. The constitutional rights we learned about in high school civics were suspended. That was thanks to secret memos crafted deep inside the Justice Department that effectively trashed the Constitution. What we know now is likely the least of it,' - Scott Horton.

Sullivan adds:
The Fourth Amendment was suspended indefinitely. And they said we were paranoid."

Bush's Christian values sure helped us, didn't they?

I have long been a critic of Bush-era Constitutional policy, but this seems to be a bit of hyperbole.

That being said, I am glad it is over and I hope we never see it again. Bush was a statist, plain and simple and the Constitution was no barrier to him.

The article Internet Monk posted elsewhere seems salient here as well, especially in terms of how what I think Steve rightly describes as statism gets conflated with religion. Maybe, Streak-o, you can bump it up to the main page
