I just saw another "W" sticker this afternoon. As I stared at the back of that car, I mused about how the person inside the car imagined Bush. Would she say that Bush was a good "Christian" and "church-going moral man?" Would she say that his strength of character was her main reason for supporting him?
I wonder how many of these people would have voted for a president who lied to get us into war if they didn't attach the "Christian" tag to him? Would they still? Would they overlook the obvious lies and lack of demonstrated character if he didnt' wear his faith on his sleeve?
We might well find out. Bush said when Valerie Plame's name was leaked that he would fire anyone in his office who was associated with that. Hmm. Say what we will about what Karl knew and when he knew it, he did that. He may not have known that Plame was undercover (I don't believe that for an instant), but he certainly leaked that Wilson's wife was in the CIA. Even if he isn't guilty of breaking the law, he did exactly what Bush said would warrant a firing. Will he?
And, more importantly, how will his Christian base--the Patriot Pastors from Ohio, for example--respond if he does not? Will we continue to hear about his great integrity?

Streak- I watched several interviews today on this one. The talking point(ed) heads are out in force. In an interview with Blitzer the repub party chief changed subjects and deflected the issue with amazing skill. My favorite was Blitzer asking him pointedly something like, "Have you ever spoken with someone in the White House about this issue". The answer was something like, "All of my conversations today have been about the important issues facing the country- social security, etc..." He actually said "today", like now Blitzer is supposed to act like he's talking to a teen-ager and say, "Well, did you EVER talk with them PRIOR to today- like maybe yesterday." He also kept harping on the idea that Rove was trying to talk the guy out of publishing a false report. I guess it's ok to out a CIA agent if you are doing it in a conversation with a journalist and you are telling said journalist not to publish it. Once again, switching the point by hammering on the credibility of the story that was published rather than Rove outing the agent. Like you said, W made it pretty clear what would be done. I'm not holding my breath.

the short answer is "no".
There have been numerous points where any clear thinking xtian would have realized that Bush is a bad representative of their faith, and our country. But still, people still support this "good man".
