Lovely

Feministing: "Last night at Bates College, Phyllis Schlafly gave a lecture titled, 'Conservatism vs. Feminism: The Great Debate' where at one point she contended that a woman can't get raped by her husband: 'By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape.'"

Baloney.

I've counseled through this and trust me, it happens. Too often.

Absolutely, it happens. I still remember watching John Hagee refer to a woman's sexual duty as "rent" to stay in the house. I guess he doesn't realize that "breadwinning" is more complicated than his million dollar snake oil operation--at least for most of us.

Of course, I think my own state of Oklahoma was one of the last to actually put marital rape on the books.

I'm sure she'll get some time on the cable network entertainment/hate speech shows. I'm always amused by the paradox of an outspoken carreer woman who is anti-feminist but goes right ahead and enjoys the benefits derived from those she derides. There's always someone who pay to hear someone like this. Later-bb

VA has had it on the books for some time, but the primary problem is convincing the wife to prosecute.

Yeah--I hear you on Hagee. I was listening to Falwell on his radio station a couple of weeks ago and he was "preaching" on wifely submission.

Sex is her duty--she owes it to her husband, especially after a hard day's work, blah, blah, blah.

My wife had to pull my head out of the toilet.
