What kind of scumbag price gouges flu vaccine?

Some Suppliers Jack Up Flu Vaccine Price (washingtonpost.com): "In Fort Lauderdale, Meds-Stat offered supplies of Fluzone as late as last Friday, according to a copy of a fax offering. That same day, the company offered a Kansas City pharmacy the vaccine at a price that amounted to $90 a dose, according to a lawsuit filed by the Kansas attorney general. The pharmacy was seeking flu shots for nursing home patients. The suit accused Meds-Stat of violating consumer rights.

Meds-Stat said in a written response yesterday that it had not seen the lawsuit but was 'confident that we have done nothing wrong.'"

There's a certain homeless/hungry ministry with which I'm familiar here on Chicago's near northwest side that has offered free flu shots one day in October to its people (many homeless, mostly elderly) these last few years. I walked in Tuesday evening for a meeting and there were signs posted all over the center stating that flu shots were cancelled this year. I asked one of the sponsor types why and he said that since there was such a shortage they couldn't get any free vaccine from their usual supplier and nobody else had any to offer without paying dearly for it.
So, let's all give a huge hand to these fuckers. I want to personally invite them to come and help our community clear out the dead from the underpasses and el-frames and flophouses this winter. We're not talking about a luxury here, you know. This is a neccessary part of preventing a potentially devastating epidemic.
So frustrating and so disheartening.
