Just a reiteration. Those Republicans who continue to support this President (the worst our nation has ever seen--and I will defend that) need to recognize that this hurricane has revealed the gap between Bush and his supporters. The "great leader" who finally decided to end his 5 week vacation 2 days early only yesterday doesn't really want better government. I truly believe his supporters do. They want better public education. They want better federal responsibility (not necessarily more, but better). They want better government. FEMA, as we saw under Clinton and James Witt, was the best example of good government. A way to consolidate and coordinate resources.
But Bush and his people don't want better government. They don't want federal agencies. Not better or worse, none. They don't want better public education--they don't want any. They don't want an improved FEMA.
At some point, Bush supporters are going to have to decide. Is the aftermath of Katrina what they want from government? Because, as many bloggers have noted, many of the issue that occur during a hurricane would be the same (or worse) during a terrorist attack. So, shouldn't Bush's HSA be able to handle either?
Worst president in our history. Not dumbest. Not most incompetent. But worst. No president will end 8 years having done more damage than this one.
