New meme from conservatives--mark this down. Watching Chris Matthews tonight, saw a Republican suggest that Gonzales is a fine lawyer, just doesn't have the skills to match up to a Leahy or Shumer.
Even if we were to accept this excuse, wouldn't we want the Attorney General of the United States to have "the skills"? If you'll forgive the pun: talk about lowering the bar.
But doesn't it just remind you of the people excusing Bush's problems with the English language? "How unfair to criticize him--he is not a good speaker, you can't expect...."
They are both perfectly fine, competent leaders, except as compared to others who ever have or ever could hold their positions. Other than that, everything's fine.
I would have to say that if you don't even have the skills to natch up with a blow-hard like Schumer, then you certainly don't have the skills to be the AG.

Bar lowering. I am tired of it.

Natch, indeed.
