Didn't try hard enough?

But this restores a little faith in Powell.
Powell tried to talk Bush out of war - Times Online : THE former American secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2½ hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today’s conflict cannot be resolved by US forces.

“I tried to avoid this war,” Powell said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. “I took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.”

Bush must not been much of a student of history. That region of the world is full of examples of occupiers having a great deal of trouble.

But then again, he supposedly thinks he is doing God's work.

I will admit to a fair degree of skepticism when it comes to poeple that claim this. At Sunday school today, there was a brief debate about understanding the Bible. One person claimed that you had to understand the context it was written in and warned against coming to some kind of absolute certainty. As an example, he pointed out that some Christians said that Apartheid was biblically ordained. He also pointed out that he has some 'friends' that frequently come to him and tell him what the holy spirit has told them.
