Argh--I have been tagged

By both Natalie and Tony.

The rules are:
1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
2. Each player answers the questions about himself or herself.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags five people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Ten years ago, I was . . .

Struggling to write my dissertation. I floundered around for a long time before I really started producing pages.

Good thing I don't have a blog! I didn't know about Spokane - geez, how long have I known you? It's like your this whole other person. Who the hell ARE you anyway?

I've already done it.

Spokane was after my first year and before my third. So it may not count. I could not find any single place in Spokane and have no memory of it.

So, I was probably cheating.

Dude- you're really showing your age with "microfiche processor":-). Wasn't that the stuff at the library I used to load in the machines with the big screens to look up some obscure German scientific journal or an old newspaper clipping from years ago? Were you the guy transferring those articles? I always wondered who that was:-).

Yeah, that doesn't show your age at all, does it?

Actually, we ran computer generated microfiche from city and county records.

Cowboy?

That's cool.

What's microfiche?

Thanks for tagging me (I think). Unfortunately, a quick survey of my few available blog victims reveals that most have already been tagged. But I will say that 10 years ago I was on the staff of a "seeker-sensitive" Southern Baptist Church in San Rafael, CA. After that, things are a little hazy . . .

tony, I am not even going to respond to that question.

Steve, it wasn't a compliment. :)

Now, off to read my college notes on microfiche...

"Cowboy? That's cool." Before you think Streak was too "cool" as a Western icon, I'm thinking this entry was probably amounted to doing his chores as a Western slope kid:-). I'm picturing a skinny adolescent chasing his dad's cows back from the neighbors pasture?

Well, I was thinking cowboy along the lines of "You'll shoot your eye out, kid," but I wasn't sure Streak would get the movie reference.

Ok, you two are asking for it. Pardner.

Ok, here is the deal. I spent an entire summer working for one of our family friends. They had a cow camp where they summered their herd at high altitude. I lived in the old cabin while my bosses lived in the newer one--the one with running water. Every morning, I took my horse and "jingled" the horse herd--which entailed finding the herd in a huge pasture and bringing them back to the main cabin.

Most of the time was actually spent fixing fence--something I hated then and hate now.

So there.

OK, sorry- Skinny adolescent checking neighbor's horses and fixing fence:-). BTW, still pretty cool. Fixing fence- the part no one talks about. Did you ever think while you were there you'd ever leave God's country and end up in the flatlands?

If you had told me I would live in the great plains, I would have told you that was crazy. If you had suggested that living in the plains was good, or that any place outside the mountains was good, I would have also called you crazy. Or that I would love Oklahoma.

Those were my thoughts exactly. As we left the beautiful state for places we said we'd never live, I think you and I were both probably close to quoting Robin Williams' character in Good Will Hunting, "... I gotta go see about a girl."

True. But I also no longer believe that the mountains are superior to the plains. I just think they are easier to appreciate.
