Appropriate lyrics

If you don't listen to Centro-Matic then you should. Great band, even if they are from Texas!

For some reason the lyrics from Flashes And Cables struck a chord:
"nobody told us that the bastards were here
all the rogues and the scoundrels are shedding their tears
no, nobody told us that the cameras were here"

I've been meaning to give them a listen ever since Will Johnson from the band toured with David Bazan and Vic Chesnutt on the Undertow Orchestra tour.

Yeah, I have "Fort Recovery" and "Love You Just the Same" and both are excellent. They were one of the highlights of the ACL fest for both SOF and myself.

Good deal.

On another note, you might like James McMurtry. He won Album of the Year and Song of the Year at the Americana Awards Show earlier this year. A few free mp3s here (scroll down), including a nice protest tune.

Yeah, WJ, love McMurtry. I really regret not catching him at the first ACL, but I really didn't know that much about him. I love his songwriting and while I don't have that much of his original stuff, I have several covers by other artists. Lucy Kaplansky does a great cover of "Off and Running," and Robert Earl Keen does two different McMurtry songs: "Levelland" (a fabulous song) and "Out here in the Middle" (perhaps even better) with the great lines:

We got justification for wealth and greed
Amber waves of grain and bathtub speed
Now we even got Starbucks
What else you need

Out here in the middle
Where the center's on the right
And the ghost of William Jennings Bryan preaches every night

Thanks for the link, though. I had "We can't make it here" but not the other two.
