RANDOM THOUGHTS on Politics: Bush Values: Screw the Poor

RANDOM THOUGHTS on Politics: Bush Values: Screw the Poor
"I hope all those values voters that supported Bush are comfortable with the values represented in cutting programs designed to protect the neediest and weakest among us while we continue to protect the wealthiest and the corporations. It's particularly cynical to cut increases for disabled veterans, thousands of whom were injured in the war in Iraq. It's more than cynical - it's disgraceful. (And I NEVER want to hear one more statement about how the Dems abandon the troops while the Pubs support them. Never.)"

This is what I am talking about (and yes, I realize I am still shrill. I am mildly depressed--not because of the Sooner or Broncos--but because of a variety of reasons) and I still wonder about the family values of this administration. Let's look at what the Bush administration stands for:

1) invading other countries--because we want to.

2) increasing nuclear weapons (sorry, nukular) rather than decreasing them

3) giving the president the authority to permanently incarcerate people (even American citizens) if they are deemed enemy combatants. Deemed, that is, by the President.

4) reducing environmental regulations because they hurt the corporations. Nevermind the increase of mercury or arsenic. nevermind that some fish are changing sex because of the toxins in their environment. Nevermind any of that. Bottom line is all that matters.

5) taxes are bad. we are all on our own.

6) Public education is bad and should be undermined.

7) we can torture our enemies because they behead people.

8) the death penalty is good. best way to avoid executing innocent people is to execute more and ignore mitigating circumstances.

9) when people around you are incompetent but loyal--promote them.

10) when people around you question your God-like status--fire them and then savage their reputation.

11) racism is bad, unless you need it to get elected.

12) keep saying you are a good compassionate christian. even (and especially) if you are never expected to act like one.

i've missed this kind of fury! the only thing i've really heard about the american govt the past month was on the news a couple days ago when the fellow turned to the camera towards the end of the news and said "the US gov't apologised today for accidentally dropping a 500 lb bomb on a small village in the north of iraq. there were (? number of people) killed."

and then they were on to the next story. it was just one of those "oh my goodness" sorta moments.

anyway, that's all for the minute. talk to you all soon. hope all's well there.
