Yeah, it is pretty dicey out there. The ground has not been frozen so the worst places are still the bridges and overpasses. We found that out on our brief and chilly walk.
In other news, local media is no better than the national. Watching one of the locals trying to get some up-to-date weather, they ended their brief bit with this "you are watching Ice Storm--2007"
Yeah, an ice storm isn't enough, we have to brand it. Sigh.
Keep warm.

I'm starting to wonder if we don't live within a couple blocks of each other. I took this pic this morning: http://www.flickr.com/photos/80935441@N00/2098601084/ Pretty much the same bush, looks like.
And it didn't happen if the local news doesn't have a graphic made out for it. Duh.
Do you suppose Gary Englund writes his own theme music? Every weather channel special on storms there's Gary complete with dramatic theme music and voice over. On one of them, he was doing a voiceover over his own broadcast from when the storm actually hit.
The TV stations here advertise their weather departments...
"Watch TV6, with the most complete weather forecast. We have Extreme Doppler 10000 coverage."
Anytime there is a hint of bad weather, they will interrupt a show with dire predictions and cautions to stay off the road.
We moved to Houghton, MI in 1978. That winter we got a total of 355 inches of snow (a record that still stands). There wasn't half the hoopla that we have now.
I am starting to sound like a curmudgeon.
Dear lord, you southern people have no tolerance for the cold stuff!! We woke up here in CT with 2 inches of snow on the ground the other morning, and it barely made more than a 2-minute intro story on the news. Other than that, business as usual. I have co-workers in our Dallas office complaining about the 50 degree weather. Goodnes, it was 33 here the other night and we were outside talking with people! I think it is just liberal bias against the snow. :) (Kidding!!)
Trust me Joe, if it were snow, you would have heard no complaint from me. An ice storm is a completely different animal--especially when it takes all the trees down.
Yeah, this storm went quite a bit beyond the initial reports we heard up here. Once I heard how bad it really got, I wished I could delete my comment! Hope you and SOF are faring well and get your power back soon.
