Random Thoughts on Bush, Morality, etc

*My neighbor just told me that there was only one good thing that came of GWB's presidency. That thing was to get my neighbor to register to vote--and not for Bush.

*During Greg's radio interview, the host mentioned something that I liked very much. He said that people who use God or Christianity just to make money were violating the "using the Lord's name in Vain" commandment. That, he said, was not about saying "Jesus" inappropriately, but misusing the identity of God. Agreed, brother. I would add to that daring to speak for God, but we both agree that some outburst of anger is not what the commandment was about.

*I mentioned that Gonzales cares more about porn than torture. I was reminded that this Super Bowl will be highly vigilant about "wardrobe malfunctions." Amazing, isn't it? We can exert all sorts of outrage over Janet Jackson's boob, but can't find any for a pyramid of Iraqi prisoners? Or what about the study released this week that half of bankruptcies are due to an inability to pay for medical bills. These are working people, many with some health insurance, and one bad diagnosis loses them their house. That isn't right, and what is more egregious is how few Americans care. Where is the church? Why do they care more about my gay friends than this issue?

*"I know that Bush isn't really stupid, and that his parents are married and were married when he was conceived, but the first words that come to mind when I think of him are "stupid bastard.""--Unnamed neighbor.
